Hey there, Thanks for this. I love Riven and without you there wouldn’t be much chance of it happening on OS X.- as you well know.
How can folks donate to your effort. I would be happy to give 10 bucks or so for your hard work thus far and I’m sure others would too.
Best
Tim
Tim: Most importantly, thank you for your support!
I do not accept donations at this time, nor do I really plan to in the future. This is not a project that will help anyone, it will at best allow some folks to replay an old game on modern hardware and software.
Hello and thanks again for this effort.
I downloaded the latest release (0.7d4) and when i try to launch it i get the following message :
*** =[NSURL initFileURLWithPath:isDirectory:]: selector not recognized [self = 0x1740c130] NSInvalidArgumentException
Did i do something wrong ?
TIA.
Grover: please file a bug on Launchdpad, and include a complete crash log if this exception causes Riven X to crash, otherwise the full Riven X log, which can be found in ~/Library/Logs/Riven X/Riven X.log.
Thank you.
Bug filed.
Hey Great job on Riven X so far, helped me feed the puzzle monkey on my back, but I’ve encountered a small problem, the game is running fine so far but in the game when required to pull an object, by clicking and dragging, the hand will not remain closed, it will “let go” even thought the mouse is held. Any ideas? Thanks
running 0.7d4
judgeholden: Many puzzles in Riven X, including most switches that “need to be dragged” or somehow manipulated in a manner more complex than just “pushing” (like a button), are not yet implemented. Upcoming versions of Riven X will have more and more functional puzzles as the project gets closer to 1.0.
This runs great… no more tinkering to get Riven to work. And directly in Leopard 10.5.6 as well… absolutely marvelous. I am extremely grateful to have found all of this.
I would applaud anyone attempting to take this level of functionality to the original Myst as well. Is it feasible?
I love Myst. And I try play in Riven on My Mac Pro. I download Riven X.Everything wos good when I try to go up in elevator i can’t do that because can’t move the lever. What I should do?
Iluzion: Riven X is not complete yet, and as such certain things, such as the lever you mention, do not work yet. I am actively working on implementing those elements to make the game more playable.
Hi, I really appreciate your efforts in bringing this much loved program back to life for OS X. I’m running 10.5.6 on an intel iMac. I downloaded your program but I can’t get Riven to work. It just hangs after I click the play button. Is there anything I can submit to you about what might be causing this?
Rob Hourigan: I’d need more information. What edition of Riven do you have (DVD, CDs)? What specific model of iMac do you own. What exact steps did you do (what happened when you launched Riven X, what actions did you take, did you insert any disc in your computer before launching the program).
Finally, you can file a bug on the project’s Launchpad site (https://bugs.launchpad.net/rivenx/+filebug), and make sure to attach the Riven X log, which you will find in your home directory’s Library folder -> Logs -> Riven X -> Riven X.log
It’s the CD version, the iMac is a 2.66 Ghz Intel with 2GB of Ram. I didn’t have the cd#1 in the computer first time around, after I did I tried to install it to the hard drive but that seemed to hang about 3/4 of the way through, I hit the cancel button and then just tried to run the game without installing it and that’s when I got the play /setup screen but when I clicked play it just hung. Next I tried installing the program to the hard drive again with the same result as before , it just seemed it hang about 3/4 of the way through so I hit cancel again, and then I decided to put the 2nd Riven disc in and the game started. I played for about 5 minutes and then it quit on me as I was exploring a rickety door on the other side of the steep stairs.
Rob Hourigan: When you tried playing with just disc 2 in your computer, did you first do the required install procedure through the edition manager (versus a full disk install). What exact steps did you take to get past the edition manager.
Regardless, it would be extremely useful if you could file a bug report with the Riven X log and whatever Riven X crash logs are in your home directory’s Library folder -> Logs -> CrashReporter folder.
Thank you for your help.
