Yehaaa !!! I can start it again !
Many thanks for this very fast update.
Thank you !
But that’s not possible to save the game …
…and video bugs too. Many little squares at the top of the screen !
Can you be more specific? Did you try to save from the File menu (File -> Save)?
As for the video bugs, it is a known issue with QuickTime 7.6. Apple is aware of the problem and will release a fix in a future software update.
Yes I tried to save from the file menu (“save” and “save as” are grey).
Thanx for the answer about the graphic bugs.
Without saves I can’t use Riven X, unfortunately !
Tanx for your work again.
Simmons: can you file a bug report on https://bugs.launchpad.net/rivenx. Please attach a system profile in the bug, and provide steps to reproduce the problem, such as “I launch the game, wait until the main window displays the start screen, then open the File menu and the Save menu item is disabled”.
Thank you.
I thought save was a missing feature, not a bug. Did I miss something ?
Oh I think you’re right. Is a older version of Riven X which saving game was ok ?
I’ve confirmed the bug and will be releasing a patch to address the problem.
Hello good sir, and thanks so much for the continued development. It’ll be really great to play this again!
Yeah, I downloaded it and it still keeps closing out on me. Help??
Mary: please file a bug report on https://bugs.launchpad.net/rivenx. Make sure to attach the Riven X crash log (found in your home folder’s Library > Logs > CrashReporter > Riven X.crashlog) and the Riven X run log (found in your home folder’s Library > Logs > Riven X > Riven X.log).
It would also help if you included the exact steps you took to launch Riven X, as well as some information about your Mac (a system profile or the model, OS version, amount of RAM and type of graphics card).
I think I know why it’s crashing! When you’re given the option to pick which version of Riven you have I think I accidentally clicked on “original CD” out of my own eagerness (I have the DVD version) and I forgot to unclick the “remember” box. And now it remembers that option and crashes. Is there any way for it too…UN-remember it? As silly as that sounds.
I tried re-installing it but it still remembers.
I tried looking for an answer to this on the bug site but there didn’t seem to be any.
Mary: just hold down the Option key when you launch Riven X.
I would still *very* much like to get your Riven X log and crash logs. Crashing or unexpectedly quitting is not acceptable, no matter the underlying cause.
I filed a bug report with the log and one crash reporter log just now on the bug site so if you want to take a look at it. Thanks so much!
same things here : pixelated in the top (first 1/3), no saving, stop when i click the book (i click 2-1-3)
oups…forget
Mac OS x 10.5.6 on iMac 20″ Intel 4 gig ram
Denis Gauthier: could you please file a bug on https://bugs.launchpad.net/rivenx concerning the “pixelated in the top (first 1/3)” issue you’re having, including a complete system profile generated with System Profiler, the Riven X log and a screenshot. It will a lot to figure out what the problem is.
Could you give me more details on the “stop when I click the book” problem? What exact steps did you take to cause the problem?
Hello!
Alright I downloaded Riven X 7.0.2. When I open the program out of my downloads folder I get this message:
Failed to open the archive “a_Data.MHK”
Error Domain=RXErrorDomain Code=0 “Operation could not be completed. (RXErrorDomain error 0.)”
I didn’t know if this was bug report worthy or not.
Mary: if you did not do a full install on your hard drive, as I suspect you did not, then you need to put in your DVD in your computer before launching Riven X. If your DVD is in your computer, then you may not have selected the right edition and you can launch while holding down the Option key to choose the right one.
I’ll be improving the quality of the error reporting and handling in Riven X before 1.0 ships, but my focus right now is still on implementing the gameplay, while allowing people to play relatively easily, of course.
Truly excellent work. Thank you for taking the time to make this possible!
I’m wondering, does a project of similar quality to yours exist for Myst? That is, the ability to run the original Mac version of Myst.
Regards,
Christian.
I am not aware of any currently public project for running the original MYST game on Mac OS X.
Well, it appears that your launchpad site is down at the moment. Anyway, just letting you know that I’m running the latest version of RivenX (0.7.3) off of a DVD version full install, on 10.5.6 MacBook Pro, mid-2008.
Bug: Riven-hand cursors do not appear in full-screen and full-screen stretch view modes; I’m forced to use OS X default system cursor. However, they do appear in windowed mode.
Any chance of a quick patch on this one?
rob: Not likely, fullscreen is not a priority at the moment.
Thankyou for working on this, I especially love the excellent fullsized icon. Riven is the only Myst game I’ve never really had a chance to delve into, but I finally can. If I fail my exam on Tuesday I may be back to comment again.
Forgot to ask, where are the files which were copied from the discs during installation stored on the computer?
Yes! Thank You!!!
Hi,
I have installed riven on my computer with the help of riven x, but cannot figure out where riven x puts the files from the DVD? Does anyone know?
Cheers.
Jeremy Brown: Riven X installs the data files in home directory > Library > Application Support > Riven X. Perhaps I should use a less obscure path.
is there a way to skip past movies?
Not at this time, but I do plan to support movie skipping and zip mode by the time 1.0 is released.
