Riven X 0.7.2 is now available. It fixes a number of critical bugs that were causing crashes. It also addresses problems with the jungle elevator when using the original CD edition. Finally, the Save and Save As… menu items are once again functional.

  1. Truly awesome work :-)

Might I suggest a feature? That the Riven X window can be ‘floating’ on top of other windows? VLC Player has this and I use it often.

  2. Sweet ! I’ll give it a try ASAP.

Thanks again for the great work you do. :)

  3. I think I may have a problem here. I enter the school in the jungle island and I try to play with the hangman toy, but I can’t get it to work! I see where the hand changes when I hover the mouse over the ring but it won’t do anything!

Also, in fullscreen the mouse cursor changes to a regular mouse cursor instead of the Riven cursor. Makes it hard to play! In windowed mode, it’s normal and great.

  4. Zane: The school numeral teaching game isn’t implemented yet, and so it is not surprising that it doesn’t work correctly. As for the mouse cursor problem in fullscreen mode, I am aware of the problem. I’m not planning on truly polishing off fullscreen mode until the 0.9 milestone.

  5. found another bug. the handle to bring down the trapeze is unable to be pulled (yes the floor is closed). the hand never even switches to show that an action is possible. thanks.

  6. That handle is not implemented yet. Thanks for the feedback though!

  7. Great to see this project developing!

Has Cyan said anything to you regarding it?

    Thanks for doing this!

  8. I am so grateful to the people who have allowed me to play my Riven game on my OS X.5 mac. I have not ever played the game on another machine, so I am wondering if the problem with the trapeze is going to prevent me from solving the game, or is there some other way around whatever it is that I need to do up in the whark rigging? Thanks for any and all enlightenment.

    W.E

  9. W.E: There is no way currently to complete the game without using the debug console. If you wish to have a quality and complete experience, please wait until Riven X 1.0 is released. That being said, I greatly appreciate the feedback from people testing these development releases, so thank you any future suggestions or bug reports.

David Condolora: Thanks for the support. I have not contacted Cyan Worlds or UbiSoft about Riven X directly yet. I will not do so until I have a near-final version ready.

  10. is there a way to override some of the actions that aren’t implemented with a card stack and ID? For example, how would I use the debug console to activate the lever for the trapeze? is there a way to do that? thanks.

  11. Joe: yes and no. You can certainly jump around by using the card STACK CARD_ID command in the debug shell. You can also set specific variables with the set VARIABLE VALUE command and check their values with the get VARIABLE command.

There isn’t really a way to “override” script actions beyond those commands.

  12. yeah…i really only found ways to jump around different islands with the card stack card_id commands. however, when i use the card inspector where the lever is, it shows the actions of the trapeze lever. i guess my real question was is there a card_id for the lever and other small items in the game…or are the card id’s more for jumping around the different islands? just looking for a way to activate the lever. thanks for all of your help.

  13. Every single “location” in the game is a card. When you click to move forward or turn around, you are moving to a different card. Therefore, you can get absolutely everywhere using the card command.

The green outlines indicate hotspots, which handle mouse events (clicks, mouse over, etc.). Some of them that handle complex puzzles need to be implemented directly in the engine. This is the case of the trapeze the village, and many other.

  14. Hey,

Fist off I would like to thank you for the work you’ve done so far it is great. However, I am now at a point where I can no longer progress in the game (or at least think that I cant). I realize this is a work in progress, but will there be an update soon? I am pheening to continue with riven lol. Seems like there were lots of updates in feb and none since. How long (estimation of course) do you think it will take to get a rivex x 1.0… 2010 or so?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  15. Sorry I failed to the newer works of version 0.7.3 have been released since then… same issue applies though as far as game play by the looks of it. Ignore my previous questions all I would like to know is if you are close (as in next update or two) to implementing some of the puzzles or will this be a lengthy endeavor? Thanks!!!

  16. Hey, this is great work, thank you so much for your effort! It’s good to know that it’s not just my own stupidity that prevents me from solving certain parts of the game. I take it that the flipping part of the little gold domes (can’t think of a better way to describe them) is also not yet implemented? Doesn’t seem to work.
    Thanks again!

  17. The final release is scheduled for this summer.
