I’ve finished pushed out Riven X 0.9.7 a few days ago. It fixes a large number of bugs and includes over a year of, admittedly sparse, development. In particular, it fixes the QuickTime version check issues people have reported on recent versions of Snow Leopard.

As far as finishing Riven X, here is my general plan. First, I’ve dropped support for Tiger and Leopard. Apple is about to release 10.7 “Lion”, and I really don’t have the resources or time to support these older versions, not to mention all the bugs they have in their graphics drivers and other frameworks that will never be fixed. Focusing on current OS and current OS – 1 is the right thing to do for a hobby project.
Secondly, and I am serious, I am giving myself one year to finish the project (starting July 2011). Hopefully I’ll need a lot less, but if I’m not done after that I’ll declare the project dead (as far as I am concerned). I will be making a definitive list of issues I want to address for 1.0 and will share it with you when done.
Until then, enjoy the new release.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I agree: It makes no sense to support Tiger and Leopard anymore. Thanks for your work to make one of the most fantastic games ever playable on Mac OS X.
Even if it doesn’t make sense to support Tiger and Leopard anymore. Shouldn’t 9.6 still be available for those of us who want to play but have not upgraded our OS yet?
Does the shortcut mode works ? (mode Eclair in my french version, when the pointer turns into a lightning bolt)
Great work by the way !
I just found your blog. Trying on Lion on original aluminum iMac. Will you be trying to do this with original or RealMyst? or any of the other Myst games?
Where is the data copied from the CDs stored while the game is playing. I couldn’t find it anywhere. Working great with Lion!
Travis,
I do not plan to do any other game from the MYST series. The data is copied into /Users/Shared/Riven X currently, though this is likely to change in the final release.
Zip mode is not implemented in Riven X currently, though it is something that I will likely try to do for the final version.
We love you.
Can’t find contact info anywhere. Just wanted to say thank you for this amazing work; I took a friend of mine who’d never played before through the whole game with Riven X on my MacBook Pro. Thanks to you, there’s one more Riven fan out there now!
Thanks for this release. I was playing Riven with the previous version, but have not touched it for awhile. I’m now going to start again with this new release!
I thought I’d leave a heads up – if you purchase the Windows remake of Riven from Good Old Games (gog.com) and leave it on a NTFS drive that your Mac can see, such as a Boot Camp drive, then Riven X can use that installation as well. It’s only $6!
Thanks for the faithful work on such a classic game.
Still keep one eye on this project!!
Come back to see your great result indeed
Thanks for this! What a pleasure to play in full-screen mode.
But now PPC users can’t even use 0.9.7 because of the QuickTime issue…
Oops, of course I meant
PPC users can’t even use 0.9.6 because of the QuickTime issue…
I can’t remember where the bug forum is, so I ask here. The ambient sounds and soundtrack don’t work for me now that I have updated to Riven X 3. Is it me or has anyone else had this problem?
The missing sound effects and music issue has been fixed in Riven X 0.9.8.
ok, great, thanks
crashes on Lion on my 2008 8 core mac pro, 10.7.1
crash log
will try on my macbook pro and snow leopard at home. Sorry
Thanks for the report Mike. I’ve filed a bug with your crash log at https://bugs.launchpad.net/rivenx/+bug/846521. However, I will need more information to investigate the problem. Could you please attach your Riven X log to the bug? You can find it in your home directory under Library > Logs > Riven X > Riven X.log. If you are on Lion, you can go to your Library folder by holding down the Option key and opening the Go menu in Finder.
