Riven X 0.8 is a massive release, with nearly every puzzle in the game implemented and a long list of improvements and bug fixes to the engine. Please note that fullscreen has been disabled because of all the issues remaining with that feature. Fullscreen will be re-introduced in a later release and fully supported in the final 1.0 release.
Game improvements
- The power domes are fully operational, including the temple fire marble puzzle.
- The garden island viewer is fully operational.
- The garden island topography viewer is fully operational.
- The garden island pools now behave correctly when switching from one pool to another.
- The frog trap puzzle is fully operational.
- The village gallows trapeze is fully operational.
- The village school numbers game is fully operational.
Engine improvements and bug fixes
- Reworked the water special effect to resolve issues on Intel graphics hardware.
- Optimized mouse cursor updates on certain hotspots, which should significantly reduce cursor flickering on slower hardware.
- Incorporated the Riven 1.02 patch for the CD edition, which corrects a number of bugs across Riven.
- Sliding transitions now use a modified curve which has a small amount of acceleration at the beginning and end of the transition.
- Implemented a number of new minor script commands and reworkd the movie commands to improve general engine behavior.
- Corrected a buffer initialization bug in the audio engine which caused noticable artifacts in looping ambient sounds.
- Sounds are now properly positionned (stereo panning). Previously, Riven X would incorrect position non-centered sounds.
- Updated the built-in FFmpeg libraries.
- Enabled OpenGL software fallback to increase compatibility with older hardware and versions of Mac OS X.
- Riven X now looks for data files in a case-insensitive manner, both when installing an edition and when playing the game.
- The edition manager now allows to re-install editions.
