Riven X Release Notes

The QuickTime™ 7.6 update introduced a regression in the Cinepak™ codec which will cause certain movies in the game to display corrupted frames. Apple is aware of the problem and should correct it in a future QuickTime™ software update.

This release fixes a number of critical bugs that were causing crashes. It also addresses problems with the jungle elevator when using the original CD edition.

This release fixes a crash-on-launch issue on Mac OS X Tiger.

• Fixed a crash-on-launch issue on Mac OS X Tiger (#330112).

This release introduces fully functional implementations of the rebel tunnel and boiler puzzles. In addition, several levers and switches have been made operational throughout the game. Finally, significant engine enhancements have been made.

• Fully operational rebel tunnel puzzle. It cannot be reached normally through the game yet, however.
• Fully operational boiler puzzle. To try it out, take the maglev from the temple island to the jungle island, then the cart to the crater island.
• Implemented the jungle elevator handle.
• Implemented the crater steam power control valve.
• The water animation effect has been rewritten to be much more efficient.
• The audio engine has received significant updates which should translate to correct loudness for ambient sounds, sound effects and movies, smooth volume and panning transitions and smoother looping.
• Movies now loop much more seamlessly than they used to.
• Corrected significant issues with the script engine, resulting in many more areas of the game now working correctly.
• The inventory journals now fade out if the mouse is not over them.
• Updated Sparkle to 1.5 Beta 6.
• Fixed an issue with the edition installer which was causing the status to remain stuck at "Preparing to install..."
• Fixed an issue preventing Riven X from launching on Tiger (#307771).

This release introduces preliminary fullscreen support, browsable journals and the journal inventory.

• Added functional inventory to Riven X. You may now select all 3 journals at the bottom of the game window to view Atrus's journal, Catherine's journal and the prison book. Note that in this release the inventory is always displayed and will always contain all 3 books.
• Added functional journals throughout the game. This includes Atrus's journal, Catherine's journal, Ghen's laboratory journal and Ghen's bedroom journal. Note that in this release, puzzle combinations that would normally appear in some of those journals will not actually be usable.
• Added preliminary support for fullscreen mode. More work is needed on this feature, and an application restart is required in this release to apply display mode changes.
• Several bug fixes and optimizations throughout the code, including improved cursor management, more efficient OpenGL rendering and problems in the edition manager during installation.
